Let’s be honest, changing a spare tire is not fun.  We understand this first-hand and who wants to eagerly venture out in the cold weather or blazing sun to change a flat?  So, we simplified it.  A narrow space-saving spare tire can be so much better than what carmakers used to provide. We took our carefully engineered wheel design and partnered with a state of the art aluminum alloy wheel manufacturer. Each kit is purpose-built to be both lightweight and extremely durable. Also, each spare tire and wheel we offer is carefully engineered to be the right and correct fit for your car.

Ease of Use

Getting back on the road should be easy.

Changing a flat should be quick and easy.  We achieve this by including purpose-built tools into every Modern Spare kit. The goal is to get you back on the road quickly.  The TruLift scissor jack system promises to be the most simple and effective small jack that you will ever use. Thanks to its leveraged ratcheting system, our TruLift jack system requires just minimal effort to raise your vehicle and bring your car down safely.

Having the right tools.

Stubborn lug nuts can add stress to an already stressful situation. We have included a telescoping breaker-bar style lug wrench.  Our compact wrench features an extendable handle to provide optimal leverage.  Even the most stubborn lug nuts are removed and reinstalled easily.  Finally, since a flat tire is a dirty tire, we had the forethought to include a large plastic tire bag in each kit. You can now protect your car’s interior while transporting your flat to the repair shop.  

Extended Range

The old way…

Traditional spare tires once provided by carmakers typically had a limited range of fewer than 50 miles.  The range limit is due to the cost savings of manufacturing a small limited-use spare tire. Likewise, these typical factory-supplied spares have a much smaller rolling diameter compared to the vehicle’s factory tire size.  Using a spare that is so much smaller than your factory tires can put extra strain on the vehicle’s drivetrain and will often lead to failure if used for travel over the stated limit.

The new way…

Our kit is designed to better match the rolling diameter of your vehicle’s factory tires. This prevents excess strain on your vehicle’s drivetrain. Also, if the situation requires, this allows you to travel farther than the limited 50-mile range of old spare tires.* Each Modern Spare kit comes equipped with an actual reinforced tire for a more useful travel distance and at more normal highway speeds. With the right size spare tire, you can more easily complete your trip or travel to a repair shop of your choice.  Whether you have AWD, a limited-slip differential, or a locking differential, our kit is safe for the sophisticated drivetrain of your car.

So, why Is My Car Missing A Spare Tire?

Few things are as stressful as a flat tire.  Especially as you’re traveling along a remote and desolate highway. Not a great time to discover a spare tire is nowhere to be found in your new car.  Surprisingly, more than ⅓ of all car models sold today, are not equipped with that little lifesaver.

So, why are so many car manufacturers not providing a spare tire?

Car manufacturers are finding new ways to reduce weight and reduce costs. Removing the spare is simply one way to accomplish this.  Of course, this requires reliance on spare tire alternatives.  Unfortunately, the common alternatives you’re left with are barely adequate at best.  

What “solutions” are carmakers leaving you with?

Inflator Kits

– Inflator kits are one of car manufacturer’s current substitute for a spare tire. However, inflator kits are extremely limited in the damage that they can repair.  Using the inflator along with the sealant is only effective on simple nail-type punctures that are clean through the center of the tire tread.  With sidewall damage from curb strikes and potholes, or complete blowouts, these inflator/sealer kits are of no help. 

The sealant in these kits can also damage tire-pressure monitoring systems. – AAA memberships or similar roadside assistance service provides peace of mind for countless drivers. Roadside services offer help for all types of breakdowns. Great for many situations but, having this insurance as your spare tire back up is not a real solution. Without a good spare tire, failures typically result in a tow. With a high-performance car or one with a very low stance, damage to your vehicle is possible when being loaded on a tow truck.  

Furthermore, AAA will take you to the nearest service station. You may have experienced the unlikelihood that this service station will stock the specialty performance tire your car requires.  If traveling out of town, a hotel stay is likely while waiting for a replacement tire to arrive. 

You can see how relying on roadside assistance can turn into an expensive and stressful experience.  Should you find yourself with a flat in an area with no cell phone service, the outcome is even more stressful.  You need a spare tire solution designed to fit and be right for your car.

Run-Flat Tires

– Run-flat tires are a very popular solution among high-performance cars.  The run-flat technology allows you to drive on a deflated or punctured tire up to 50 miles at a reduced speed. The short distance is adequate to get to the nearest service station. However, this technology has significant drawbacks.  

Should a complete blowout occur the run-flat tires are not driveable.  Furthermore, once driven on with a small puncture, run-flat tires can no longer be repaired and must be replaced. Not a pleasant option when each tire can cost in excess of $500.  A large price to pay for a simple puncture.
